Preparing for the Level 5 Diploma in Teaching (Mathematics/Numeracy)

Content
During this training course there will be an emphasis on developing ‘process’ skills in:

• problem solving
• mathematical modelling
• presenting and analysing data
• inferential statistics
This is a 30-hour course, to be delivered over 6 days.  In order to maximise the learning opportunity, we’ve structured it in such a way as to give participants time to digest and make sense of the content.  The course has been divided into three two-day residential blocks.  We are planning to run each two-day block at a different venue in the region utilising local teacher training expertise.  This pattern allows participants to undertake self study between each pair of days, to work on any personal or process-based mathematics skills identified as areas requiring further development.

Audience:
Those intending to gain entry onto additional or integrated Diplomas in Teaching Maths/Numeracy in the Lifelong Learning Sector starting in 2009/10.

• Qualified teachers who want to become Specialist Mathematics/Numeracy teachers
• New Specialist Mathematics/Numeracy teachers
